I've been terrible at blogging--simply terrible! So why not start 2011 off with one of the coolest kids ever! Duston goes to Hudson High School and his Aunt Amy sent him to me! Thanks Amy! His laid back personality but attention to detail was so cool to work with. We were walking down the street and he kind of mumbled....."this is exactly how I always thought my senior pictures would be....". I don't think he understood how very much that meant to me--that's the ULTIMATE compliment! I haven't stopped smiling! Thanks Dustin for that! :)

A Day at the Weir Farm

Here's my two special little Weir boys. The special part is that Alex has been coming in to get his pictures taken by me since he was either 3 months or 6 months...I seem to have forgotten exactly how old but he is almost exactly the same age as our little Corbin! The main event with this sitting was Bradley--for his 18 month session and we got some awesome photos of both of them also. I've been bugging Amanda since Alex was little to come to the farm for photos and I am soo happy to have finally gotten out there! Plus--I am totally blown away by how amazing their farm is--the Weir Daddy is quite the awesome farmer and I just want to say how impressed I was by the cleanliness, organization and efficiency that farm is tended. Good job Weir family on making a very hard job look easy! Hours and hours and hours are spent making that farm run as great as it does and we all appreciate the hard work of farmers and their families. Thank you.

A new product that will sell like crazy I'm sure....I would have to have one if I were getting married! These are guest books that are full of engagement pictures, words of wisdom, funny anecdotes, etc. to display and write on at your wedding reception! This is my first one and I'm hoping Lisa & Jeremy will order one along with a few other brides for this May to get them going.....I'm offering a killer deal for them this year...let me know what you think. I met Sarah through her older brother, Doug. I photographed Doug and Kristen's wedding a couple years ago? (I'm bad with time!) It made me feel so proud to have done Doug and Kristen a good enough job to have the opportunity to photograph Sarah's wedding too! Dan just graduated from chiropractic school--so congratulations on that too, Dr. & Mrs. Painter! Way to go! Their wedding was simple and elegant at the same time with Designs by Judy's blowing us out of the water with their floral talent, again! And I have to mention a special thank you to my "assistant" Chelsea Brown for doing such a great job. She had a tough morning with the loss of her grandmother just moments before we were supposed to arrive at the church and she showed her true colors and her dedication to her job 100% by doing her usual fabulous work all day long. Cayne "One Year"

Little Cayne is slighty older than my Kinzie and he is ALL over the place. What a little man he is! I wasn't anxious for Kinzie to walk but after today I can't wait! Cayne is absolutely adorable with the cutest smile and the most "happy go lucky" personality! I can't wait to do this little guy's pictures outside because he's going to be a blast in the great outdoors! :)

What an amazing family! I met Doug through my BNI group--he visited us a little while ago to see if he might join our group and his wife, Sara, called me for some family portraits! This family faced one of the hardest things anyone can go through, the loss of their son, Adam about 17 months ago. My heart and thoughts have been with them since the first time I talked to Sara on the phone. I feel so fortunate that I was able to capture some family moments for them today and I hope these portraits bring smiles to all their faces everytime they view them. Feel some comfort in knowing that perfect strangers have your family in their prayers. Thank you Doug & Sara and I very much look forward to having Jenna back in my studio soon! (Jenna graduates next year!!!) And, Anne--you are a wonderful child and I enjoyed the smiles you brought me today! ;)

I had the pleasure of photographing Sarah in her ninth month of pregnancy today. She feels great, looks FABULOUS, and is already going to miss her "bump"! What a woman! I think about all the times I probably complained about being tired and uncomfortable with my fifth child and I smile remembering how beautiful it all is despite the discomfort! Sarah--I could truly take your portraits for hours and I want to thank you so much for asking me to capture this important milestone for your family! You are so very blessed and I'm very excited to meet "babygirl #2"! (No name yet!) ;)

Danielle and Spencer have been together since they were 14 if I remember this correctly! And they have NEVER broken up if I remember that correctly also! For those of us that have been 14-17 years old we all know that is a miracle! (and meant to be.) This was an amazing wedding and I was so touched by Dani's Aunts that gave her the wedding of her dreams. I felt the emotions all day of unconditional love, dedication, loyalty and family. Thank you to everyone that was involved in making this a special day these two awesome people will never forget!

OK---so this is how this session started..........Alex was NOT impressed and the kid has known me since he was born! I've been taking this farm boy's pictures since the little cutie was 3 months old! (I think he must take after his Mom! JK Amanda--I love you!) Then--we decided to do everything from making fart noises to letting him take MY picture--and no--I'm not posting those! And we got a little more from him......

Then, Amanda started talking about dinosaurs--must be his "thing" right now--as we all know that have had or have three year olds--obsessions are very normal! Right? ;) So--Alex was in the game--and we went on a dinosaur hunt around the studio--thank goodness the weather was permitting! Bradley was a poser as usual AND we got great smiles from Alex--I love his curls...thanks Alex for making my morning full of spinosaureses and t-rexes! I really enjoyed my stray from routine with you boys and your Mom! Enjoy them Amanda!

BTW--I ran to the gas station while Amanda was dressing him in his regular clothes again to get him the big fat bag of M&Ms I promised him for being so good and he actually wanted to know where I went! I feel special!

The Grass Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce rocks the Grass Lake downtown! Last Wednesday a bunch of cool Chamber members showed up at Holly Frey Photography to show their support and offer me a HUGE pair of scissors--can you believe they trusted me with those babies? LOL Thanks to the GLRCC--I can't believe anybody with a new business in town wouldn't want to join the chamber after an awesome welcoming like that! Thanks again--you all made me feel very important! ;)

Here's Sam and Steve Welling--one of my October 10th brides. Chelsea and Aaron shot this wedding for me and did a fabulous job. Sam looked absolutely beautiful and Steve cleaned up well himself! Chelsea and I also shot their engagement pics in downtown Detroit so that was a memorable experience--I had never even been down to the riverwalk before--if I remember I'll post a couple of those shots too someday! Kari and Ronnie were really the coolest couple and I'm so glad I was able to be part of their wedding day. They were married in Milan at the Activity Center which I had never been to before and it was absolutely amazing and perfect for photos! And here are our adorable children! I couldnn't get Kinzie to smile and Corbin is NOT all about having his picture taken so there aren't many of him but Kaden & Christian made up for that! Christopher is getting too "old" for pictures and Kristy likes to do her own thing so these are pretty good considering all that stuff!!! LOL Welcome to my wonderful world!
On side note--I know a couple of them have "hack jobs" for hair cuts but we thought we'd be fun and let them all have a temporary mohawk so they would quit asking for one! I get very very overwhelmed with making these albums PERFECT and the thing is--I think most of them are fine with whatever I come up with! I can be very obsessive, believe it or not, about many things concerning my business--even though my house is an absolute disaster most of the time! I do hand-design my albums completely on my own so it's not just drag and drop templates--although I'm seriously going to start some of that for time-saving purposes and I hope all my sweat, blood and tears shows in the presentation of this wedding album!

I just got a call from a Jackson Christian 2010 senior a couple of weeks ago and they wanted to do something different! Lorraine, Sara's Mom, asked me if I was game? Am I game? OF COURSE! It's the slow time of year and I'm bored---so I called Chelsea, picked up lighting at the studio and off to meet Sara we went!
There's a room at Vermeulen's in downtown Jackson they no longer used that used to be their leather center and Sara wanted to see what we could come up with so we took several hundred pics literally and I think we came up with some stuff they will love...actually I don't envy them the decision process! Moryssa Leland "Sleepy Newborn" Attempt #5

Adalyn Jarchow "Sleepy Newborn" Attempt #4

Christine and Brent brought their wonderful new daughter, Adalyn, into the studio for some sleepy newborn portraits and she was the closest yet to what I've been trying to achieve! This one is really special because I photographed Walt and Kimberly's 06.07.08 wedding and their engagement portraits beforehand with Chelsea and then their maternity portraits AND now I can say I've had the opportunity to photograph the newest most important event of their lives. Little Natalie came into the studio today with her parents and she is absolutely perfect. Kimberly and Walter are such natural parents and very comfortable with this new venture. You guys are truly wonderful and thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your precious delivery with me!

Kaylin Sleepy Newborn Attempt #2

Welcome to the world baby Kaylin! Not only do I love her name and her big sister but she is such a beautiful addition to the Choate family! Allie was wonderful and played with Kinzie during Kaylin's session and we did get some cute pictures. I'm still feeling very out of my comfort zone with these sleepy sessions but am hopeful tht I'll get it down eventually. I need to get it warmer in the studio and that's hard because it is an old building and very drafty. Thanks to Theresa and her Mom for our efforts and Congratulations to the Choate family!

Kinzie 9 months

Here's my baby and I couldn't resist trying her out in the new kangaroo pouch or sling or whatever you want to call it! She fit in it perfect and after she got used to it she LOVED it! It was soooo cute! So--I think this will work just fine for older babies as long as they aren't too big!

Kinzie just had her 9 month well baby check and she weighs an entire---ready for this---13# 14oz!!! As Dr. Tim says--it is what it is!

Silas Sleepy Newborn Attempt #1

This first one Silas's mother took!

As many of you know, I am asking for newborns to do free sessions for! This is because I am expanding my portfolio into "sleepy newborn" portraits. I really thought I could handle this and pull it off immediately!

Well--this portraits are beautiful and Silas was a perfect baby to photograph but I didn't achieve what I set after sooooo we'll keep trying and practicing! These poses where the babies are all propped up on their hands and sound asleep are NOT as easy to pull off as they look and I'm hoping I figure out the trick SOON because they are such precious portraits.

Silas's Mom, Heather, also does photography and has taken a few classes at Washtenaw so I let her take over at the end and she took a few shots of her beautiful baby boy herself! Thank you Heather for allowing me to practice on the wonderful addition to your family! I hope to meet the rest of your brood soon and Congratulations!

In the meantime......keep watch--I will perfect this eventually! (Send your family and friends that have newborns my way...before they are 10 days old is best.)

Bradley Weir One Year Already!!!

I have come to realize that I almost never use my own children's photos for advertising or on my website sooooo I'm adding some favorites from this fall in no particular order and no rhyme or reason. I'll keep doing this here and there and sometimes it will be more of one kid than another because my children are photogenic in spurts and sometimes they love the camera and sometimes they don't!

Do you think it's about time that I posted some pictures from Santa Days 2009? Kari with Touch of Love Photography and myself hosted a magical day that warmed my heart all day long. It was absolutely amazing to remember the joy of seeing the big guy in the red suit as a 5 year old all over again. I think I had goosebumps on top of goosebumps on top of goosebumps!

Thank you to everyone that came out to support us and thanks to our friends who decorated and designed this vision that started with Kari! Thank you Kari for doing this with me and a BIG thanks to Santa "Mr. D." for giving us all the smiles and magic to photograph the moments of awe from the children!

Caitlin Looney.....2010 Senior

Caitlin wanted to do some really different stuff for her senior portraits and I was all game. I love stepping outside the box and attempting to capture an individual's personality in their portraits that makes them special to that person. I think we accomplished that with Caitlin's photos.
Caitlin's photos speak to me that she is quiet most of the time but when she opens her mouth you better listen because she has a whole lot to say! Am I right, Sharon? LOL And she's dignified and respectful but doesn't always like to follow the line just because that's what someone tells her to do...she wants a reason. If I'm way off on those let me know so I can redo this post, Caitlin!

Samantha Rowe Senior 2010

OK----This proof how very far behind I am on blogging. Samantha was my first senior this summer and she wanted to wait on her outdoor photos for the fall colors. Well--things didn't go as planned but we still nailed the "fall photos."

First of all--let me tell you what a beautiful person Samantha is--I can feel it from her. She's got one of those smiles that lights up the entire lense and touches my heart. I love it when I'm processing photos and I smile because I know that I completely captured who that person is. I did that with Samantha and I really had fun with her.

We almost missed our "window of opportunity" because as you all know the fall colors are only here in full bloom for about 2-3 weeks and there is usually only one week of perfection. Samantha got the flu during that one week and then the next week my family came down with it! So--we took her photos one week too late and a little too late in the early evening--but I don't think anyone would ever complain with the product! She's beautiful from the inside out and there's no questioning that looking at her smile and eyes lighting every single picture...

Thanks Samantha for being my first 2010 Senior--you set the bar for everyone else!

I do believe that this is one of those weddings that has been dreamed about and planned since Tabytha was 6 years old! The day was a dream and everything about it was perfect. When I first met Tabytha and Dane I knew they meant buisiness and I am so flattered still that they chose me to document their special day.

By the way--Designs by Judy in Grass Lake did her flowers and can you say WOW? Great job Judys!

This was a dream day for shooting for me! The weather was PERFECT for an October wedding---which was outdoor and my absolute FAVORITE time of year. The setting was perfect--the flowers were perfect, need I go on. But most importantly--the bride and groom were truly fabulous to work with. I had already known the bride's Mom very well and consider her a dear friend at this point but I didn't even meet Bev until August this year. The funny part is that her and I are so much alike it's almost eery! We both drink our coffee the same way, have the same mannerisms and habits and very similar personalities. Bev's Mom said to me--"I know now why I like you so much! You remind me of Bev!" The one thing that I loved about Bev is that wherever she was people were smiling because she's one of those people that makes others happy just by being in the room....I understand how Josh fell in love! Needless to say--these are just a few of my favorites and we're going to have to upgrade Bev's album to get all her favorites in there and I'm totally geeked about designing it! (And nervous too--it has to be PERFECT!) Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Koch and thank you so much for inviting me to be part of your day. :)

The last time I met Kallie I think we decided she was about 13 or 14 years old when I did a family shoot for her entire family! I didn't even recognize her! She's grown into a beautiful, outgoing, friendly and spontaneous young lady! I can't even believe how fast time flies--everyone keeps telling me that I'll turn around and my own children will be getting their senior photos done and that doesn't even seem possible....but look at Kallie--I'm sure her family feels like just yesterday she was a bubbling, mischievious toddler asking questions all day long! Thanks for remembering me Rudd family! It's ALWAYS my pleasure!

What a beautiful, confident, smart young woman Julie is! She also has the nicest Mom who actually was real sick on Julie's "outdoor" day. I certainly hope she is feeling better..... I did have a blast with Julie--she is so full of life and had lots of great ideas on her own! She was so polite about her ideas though, always asking permission! I had the most relaxing and easygoing session with Joelle, her Mom and sister! They were so willing to try anything and we had fun taking Joelle's senior pictures. We even had a couple of strange encounters on Below Rd! (You can ask Joelle or Natalie!) Joelle reminds me so much of when I was a teenager--softball was my life and I see that same passion in Joelle for sports. She is kind hearted and very beautiful from the inside out--what a pleasure of a girl to spend time with. Thanks for the great time and for entertaining Kinzie and--Kaelynn (sp?)--I'm looking forward to shooting your senior pictures someday and letting Joelle pick on you! :P

Here's adorable Connor and I've taken his picture a few times and every single time I'm not sure I can get cuter shots and I always do....he gets cuter by the second! He is such a joy of a child--so full of curiousity and so smart! I love his curls and I don't know how his Mom is ever going to cut his hair--I would cry! I could go on and on about this family

Busy busy baby! We were ON THE MOVE getting Cooper's pictures and he had NO time for smiling at the camera....we were able to sneak a couple in anyway but we were clearly wasting our time trying to get anything posed with this little cutie pie. I've done Cooper's pics many times and he is the sweetest thing but what a difference this time. He has grown up so much and he is a little man now! Alright--don't even know where to start! These 2 young men have been best friends for a long time--since they were eight? We did pics out on Charles' farm in Grass Lake and I think I did a great job capturing each of their personalities..... They also had some fun with me and I had to share a few of those too! Thanks boys for making me laugh and keep the humor alive! They remind me of what my boys will probably be like at their age someday--look out! :)

Here's my good friend Amanda's little guy and what a sweetheart. He's a lot like his brother Alex and a lot different! I've been photographing Alex--who is 2 1/2 yrs since he was 3 months old and now I've had the extreme pleasure to photograph little brother Bradley also. Thanks Amanda for sharing your boys with me for a few minutes every few months--I always enjoy! This was a stressful start! Amanda called me to tell me she was having truck issues and she was going to be late and then she got here--I actually beat her there--and told me that her truck wouldn't go into reverse! She was driving her hubby's farm truck--a dually (sp?) diesel monster that is! Then--I realized I forgot to get hay for the pictures! So I ran to Designs by Judy's--Judy ran to her Mom's for me to grab some hay and back I went to the studio! (By the way--Amanda was watching MY baby Kinzie all the while and Kinzie likes her Mama soo....) Anyway--you would never know how "stressful" this morning went because I couldn't even get any candids of this little smiler because he wouldn't stop flirting with my camera! He's a cutie Manda! :)

I had so much fun with Alyssa! We had one of those "iffy" days for weather but we pulled it off and she looks beautiful in her pictures. Alyssa is a real quiet girl but I'll bet she has a lot to say after you get to know her! Her Mom, Dana, (sp?) babysat my nephews for a long time and I'm so glad they called me for Alyssa's senior pictures...I can remember Alyssa when she was running around Dana's house when I would pick up Jake sometimes! Wow! What an incredible couple and what an unbelievable group of friends....I loved these people! I had so much fun with them and they were practically begging for more! It was a blast and I wanted to really capture how much fun this group of friends had. Everything about this day was perfect beginning with the "I do's" and it just got better from there! These are my friend April Ruggles' children--they are so cool and each have their own identity which is obvious immediately. April wanted to capture her children in "the way they are right now." Here's the cutest family ever! Colleen and Rick met me at the Grass Lake Expo 2 1/2 years ago. Their cutie pie, Kate, is my 2 year old's age. Then they found they were expecting twin girls!!! Here's Leah and Brooke--hope I spelled their names correctly and they are just as cute as their big sister! It's very difficult to entertain and keep 3 small children happy enough to get good pictures from the sitting but WELL worth it when you've got pics like these to display! Thanks to Colleen and Rick for your patience and I hope you continue to call me for family photos for years! Congratulations!

Amanda had so many cool ideas and she was so fun and easygoing. And Jeremy--what a great sport! Their entire day was fabulous and captured the spirit of their relationship! Here you go Tammy! Pictures of your very handsome son, Mike! I chose the sports pics because that is Mike! He is all about his sports and I don't even know him to know that. It's so awesome to see someone take an interest so serious and that shows dedication that will carry him throughout his entire life! This is my August 8th, 2009 wedding. Amy and Charlie Cole! What an awesome couple. I met them through my Schwann's guy--Amy's Dad, Marshall. Isn't it crazy how things work sometimes? I have to share a funny story....Charlie is the youngest of three brothers and he's a big guy but his brothers are even bigger! I'm taking a group shot of them and I said to Charlie (I really didn't know) "Are you the baby?" He looks at me and then up at each of his brothers real dramatically and looks back at me and says "What do you think?" It was funny--yes--Charlie--I am a natural blonde! It made for a nice picture though!

All morning long I was scouring websites for some cool shots for rain. It was not looking good for an outdoor wedding. I was very prepared to get them some cool shots whether it rained or not. Luckily one hour before the ceremony the rain stopped and they had a dream outdoor wedding. It was beautiful, very romantic. They continued to be great sports throughout the posed shots after even though we were all being attacked by mosquitos! Dale Fisher Galleries is such a spectacular spot for pictures and I always feel incredibly lucky to be shooting there. (Not to mention the entire 4-5 miles from home that I am!)

Thanks Amy & Charlie for a great day and your easygoing attitudes made the day--it would have been just as perfect in a downpour!
